We have arrived in Melbourne and are at the airport. I am still really upset about not finding my family. But Fen and James agreed that they wouldn’t end the holiday just yet, and that we could each use our left-over money at some of the airport shops.
I am not sure which shop to go to. Wait, ...Skyla is looking at a scrapbook shop, ...Joseph, Fen and Eden are going to the toy shop,.. Jethro and James are looking at some lollies shops, ...and Tianna is, wait, ...what does that sign say? That, that, that can’t be right! It, it looks like, me! Yes, that sign has a cartoon picture of me! I take a closer look, just to be sure. Yep, its true! The Paul Frank shop has a picture of me as their logo. Wait a second - Paul Frank! Why, Paul is my name!
Suddenly I saw my life (before Tianna bought me) flash before me - my parents, my brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins and even grandparents. And I came from PAUL FRANK!
I look one last time at my tag (on my rear). If you knew it said “Paul Frank”, you could clearly see the logo under the sharpie. I have also noticed that my shirt says Paul Frank too!
After another long minute of staring into the shop, I race in, past the clothes and bags and iPod cases that Tianna is looking at, and I finally find the toy section. There are monkeys everywhere! Paul Frank figures, Paul Frank pillows, pencils, pencil cases, and any toy you can imagine with a Paul Frank logo on it. Tianna races after me to tell me that she has told the shop keeper that I am already 'bought', but that the shop keeper has said that she will only recognise me as 'bought' if I stay off the shelves and such.
Then Tianna goes back to looking at clothes and bags, leaving me to look for my family. In the stuffed toy section, there are literally hundreds of monkeys, clowning around, just like me! They all look at me and whisper to each other, most of the whisperings ending at some monkeys who are in the middle of the third shelf, giving each other amazed and concerned looks.
“It's me!” I say, “I'm Paul. I have searched and searched to find my family, and now I have, I just have to figure out who is my family. Please, please listen to me."
Then the biggest monkey of all (who must have been the leader) said “Many 'Pauls' have been sold before, how do you know that you were from this particular shop in the airport?”, and then he says “Anyone who has had a son, daughter, brother or sister sold, put your hand up.”
Then the biggest monkey of all (who must have been the leader) said “Many 'Pauls' have been sold before, how do you know that you were from this particular shop in the airport?”, and then he says “Anyone who has had a son, daughter, brother or sister sold, put your hand up.”
And just about every hand shoots up. “I, I just know.” I reply to answer his question.
Then he says, “Anyone who thinks you recognise him as that sold one, keep your hand up!”
Several hands fall down, and there is quite a bit of chattering and laughing. A few of them even go back to what they were doing. I notice that only a small group of them still have their hands up. “Then the big monkey says, “ Do you recognize yourself in any of these monkeys?”
I look at the ones with their hands still up, and see a monkey, who is too young to be my dad, but who looks exactly like me.”
I point at that one, and he and his parents burst out laughing, and say that they have missed me lots and actually knew that I would come back. When I finally realise that he is my brother, I burst out laughing too!
We spend some time being cheeky and monkey-ing about before Tianna says that we have to go. I tell her that I want her to buy my family too, because there are five in my family, including me, and each of us could belong to a child since there are five kids in Tianna’s family. She says she will ask them, and each of them says yes and so my whole family is bought and comes home with us.
We are finally home and celebrate with a delicious 'welcome home' dessert from the cheesecake shop and a big family reunion with all of Tianna’s Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. I have given my new family a tour of the house, introduced them to some of the kids other toys, and now we are all in bed with our new owners.
As I am about to drift off, I am remembering all the amazing landmarks we have seen and all the adventures we have had. I am so grateful and am so proud to be the big brother of my younger brothers, Pablo and Philip, and sister, Pamela, and long-lost son of two parents, Peter and Penelope. I am hoping to go on a few more adventures in the future, just a few…
